Valencia almonds are among the most widely grown varieties in Spain. Almondeli almonds are fried and lightly salted, ideal for a tasty snack or gourmet aperitif. Valencia almonds are characterized by their strong flavor, which leaves a balanced bitter aftertaste in the mouth. This version flavored with chili pepper is a must-try.
Valencia almonds are considered the “Queens of Spanish Aperitifs” because they are perfect for a gourmet snack: excellent on their own or paired with a good platter of Iberian cheeses and cold cuts.
What makes Spanish almonds special?
Almondeli almonds come from numerous almond trees covering over 200 hectares, including the Marcona and Valencia varieties, which are the fruit of a very long-lived tree, Prunus Amygdalus. The almond tree can reach heights of around ten meters with white or slightly pink five-petal flowers, and its productivity increases with age, reaching its peak at around eighteen years: 75-90 quintals of almonds with husks and shells per year.
Harvesting takes place mainly in summer when the seed reaches a solid state: Mediterranean almond cultivation is mostly carried out in small family-run almond groves, just like Almondeli, which is why harvesting, unlike in California, is still done manually.
