Known as the blue-egg shrimp, the Gobetto is fished mainly in the Sicilian Channel. It lives in deep, muddy bottoms. The meat is sweet and firm while the blue eggs have a delicate flavor.

Depending on market availability, red shrimp could be sourced from vessels not flying the Italian flag, but still fished in the Ionian Sea FAO Zone 37.2.2 and packaged in the Mazara del Vallo plants.
